Fun sequel
Great sequel! I loved the first game and have always thought of it as SSX lite (probably the best you're going to get on an average tablet/phone, though, with a great sense of speed, fluid gameplay, decent courses, very responsive controls and solid graphics). This sequel is pretty much more of the same. The gameplay and controls felt pretty much the same (and are both simple and intuitive). The unlock system is the same, collecting experience to unlock certain new tracks, riders, snowboards, and to level up your riders.
The modes from the previous game are all here with the addition of a new mode called Time Attack, where you're racing through checkpoints while trying to stay on a path set between flags. Other modes include standard free play tracks, halfpipe tracks, big air, which focuses on jumps and air tricks, and online multiplayer. Each of the 4 main modes has around 5 different tracks, each with 5 objectives to complete (from getting certain scores and performing certain tricks to collecting 5 letters hidden throughout the track).
There's also a decent learning curve and sense of progression. At the beginning, even seasoned players of the first game will have trouble getting high scores and pulling off things like rail grinds/slides without falling off. However, as you gain experience points and unlock characters and boards with better stats and level them up, you'll start pulling of giant combos with huge multipliers. It's laid out nicely so that, by the time you unlock the hardest tracks, you'll likely be powered up enough to be able to pull off the 300,000 point combos and 4 million point total scores their goals demand.
If you liked the first game and wished there were more tracks, this sequel delivers. If you haven't played the first game but are looking for a fun and addictive snowboarding game on the go in the vein of SSX, this one's pretty exceptional. It's not a revolutionary departure from the original. In fact, it's very much more of the same, but you know the saying. If it ain't broke...
