We used this after our puppy was neutered only to give breaks from the plastic cone. He was able to easily lift the inflatable collar over his head (his neck was about 13" and we used a large). If his collar was placed through the loops, he would get his leg stuck trying to get out. When the need to lick his wound became less urgent at about 3 days in, he was more willing to leave the collar on and started napping with it. It helped to relieve him from wearing the hard cone full time and made eating/drinking/potty time much easier. I still used the plastic cone any time he wasn't being watched diligently. While inflated, the collar width was quite large. He was not able to reach his wound at all.
