Great book, but not appropriate for dads who didn't grow up with a good dad role model
I figured my problem with this book was important enough to share...
I bought this book for my husband for father's day hoping he'd have fun bonding with our son while reading it aloud. I adored the story and the pictures, but I almost chose not to give it to him based on the last two pages, which say "I'll do all these things and more...because that's what my dad did for me." Sadly, not all good dads grew up with good dads.
My husband's dad was absent, at best, and abusive when he was around. It's a sore subject, and in retrospect I should have returned it despite it's wonderful story and message on the other pages. I chose to give it to him anyway, and I saw how awkward it was for him to read that last page. I'm now considering cutting that page out, or covering it up with "because I love you so much."
