Unlike other Internet radios, the Sangean does not use the Pandora or Iheart services. This radio uses the excellent Frontier Silicon radio portal service. You can access over 17,000 worldwide radio stations and thousands of podcasts once you connect to your home wifi network. The radio menu provides built in options right out of the box to view all the stations by country, genre, local stations, podcasts, most popular station, recently added new stations. If you want to add and organize your own favorite radio stations you must register the radio with the Frontier Silicon service. You will need an access code to register. The radio has a menu option to generate this access code. Once you have your access code, go to website [...] and enter the access code, your email and a password. After you are registered with the Frontier Silicon website you can browse via your computer all worldwide radio stations and podcasts. The website allows you create groups of your favorite stations and podcasts. Your favorites and groups will show up on the Sangean radio menu display under "My Favorites". You can login to Frontier Silicon anytime to make changes or add additional stations. The sound quality of the Sangean provided Silicon Frontier radio portal is as good as the Pandora pay service upgraded streams. Why pay $3.99 plus tax per month for the upgraded Pandora service. If you have used the free Pandora service you know what a pain that is with the time outs and poor quality audio streams. Sangean also provides an Iphone remote app which allows you to control the radio via your Iphone. The mono speaker on this radio sounds excellent with its 12 watts output. The headphone, aux in, and headphone jacks are all stereo. The radio also offers regular FM and uses either AC, 4 regular alkaline or rechargeable NiMH batteries. Another feature is the music player mode of this radio. You can access and play your music files stored on your computer or network hard drive. If you are fan of the other internet radio services like Pandora or IHeart this is not the radio for you. However, the Frontier Silicon service used by Sangean is a top rated service. Just check out the reviews of this service on the internet. The Sangean seems very well made and looks like a more traditional high end radio than many of the other internet radios. It is also very easy to setup. Connecting to my wireless router worked on the first try. I have not had any buffering issues with radio stations. The stations connect fast and are very clear. One thing which is a pain is installing the batteries. The battery compartment is tight and you have to press hard to get the batteries in. This is not a big issue if you use good rechargeable batteries which will not have to be replaced for a very long time.
