A great alternative to the name brand options.
I’ll admit, I went into this with low expectations. I’ve been using Brother label makers since they were first brought to market 500 years ago. Like everyone else, every year I get sucked into a great deal on low cost label makers, and then suffer through a year of overpriced consumables that seem to specialize on creating waste so they run out more quickly. Decades later, it’s time to explore other options. I never heard of this brand but saw that it was picking up momentum and decided to buy one. It arrived promptly. It looked sleek and simple to use. I love that I don’t need batteries and that I can charge by USB, although I’d much prefer the USB-C format than the included microUSB port. A cable is included so that now brings my count to 5,347,273 of them. It came with a charge but I topped it off before use. I opened the label tape compartment, installed the included roll of sample labels (and it’s awesome that they included some). You have the option of precut labels or continuous roll labels which is a nice option to cover a wide range of applications. The instruction manual was outstanding. I am not really a QR code guy (an option for downloading the manual) but the printed instructions included in the box were more than adequate to get me up and running. It took a bit to understand how to get the labels centered but I only wasted two labels in the process and was on point the rest of the way. I am not a fan of downloading apps on my phone to run anything. Maybe that is the Gen X’r in me. I find them to be bloated and intrusive and most of them are buggy if they are not from a major name company. Besides, I have too many things downloaded on my phone as it is. However, I was anxious to test this out so I took an old phone that I download test apps on. The label app was easy to find and quick to download. Surprisingly, the UI was very easy to understand and navigate around in and it has 1,000 times as many options for customizations compared to other label makers I’ve used. I don’t think there is a job you couldn’t find the right options for. I was really impressed. I quickly set up a couple of test labels and before I knew it, they were sent to the printer by Bluetooth and printing. Start to finish, not including charging, I went from box to awesome labels in 15 minutes. Barcodes, QR codes, emojis… You’ll easily spend an hour playing with this thing. The graphics are crisp and clear and the sample labels included had a nice glossy finish and adhered very well. I am using this for barcode inventory purposes. The picture is a 12x40 label but enlarged. At its regular size you can’t see any pixelation unless you are up on it with a magnifying glass. This model label makers is what I needed for a few projects, but once I am done, I am going to likely order another label maker in a larger size from this brand. This model is really compact and won’t take up much room in your desk when not in use. I can’t speak to how long this thing will last but I can say that I am really happy with the quality, speed and production so far. And when I run out of labels, replacements are much more affordable than what I was doing with other brands. And the types of labels out there are much more diverse than the boring stuff the big name label makers restrict you to.
