360 Speaker: Bose Revolve+ vs Beoplay A1
In this review I wanted to compare two 360 speakers (Bose Revolve+ vs the Beoplay A1) in the $250-$300 range. Design, Sound Quality and Functionality are 3 main areas of importance to me. See attached image of both speakers side by side. Design: Both have a modern design that can complement the decor. The Bose Revolve+ design is not so unique. There are similar tower-like 360 speakers out there. In other words, you won't know it's a Bose unless you see the logo/label on top of the speaker. The Revolve+ handle and optional base is helpful with it's mobility/convenience. The Beoplay A1 design is one of a kind and looks better in person than the picture. You have to see one for yourself to appreciate the design. However, it is difficult to find the buttons on the Beoplay A1. Sound Quality: Both speakers do a great job dispersing a 360 sound. The Revolve+ definitely has the signature Bose sound tone/quality, but with more bass and power than the Soundlink color, II & III. If you are a fan of the Bose signature sound, then you will not be disappointed. I do think that the Revolve+ sounds more hollow than the A1. The Revolve+ does get twice as loud as the A1 with little distortion, which is helpful when playing music outdoors. The Beoplay A1 has the signature B&O sound tone and can be modified via the Beoplay App. The sound quality is best between 30%-75%. At low volumes, the A1 sounds like a non-portable high quality speaker connected to mains/power supply. Functionality: The Revolve+ has very convenient soft buttons on top. I also like the Bose Connect app which allows you to turn on your speaker without having to walk over to the speaker even when the speaker is not plugged in. The A1 needs to be manually turned on everytime you use it and the button can be hard to find. You cannot switch tracks on the A1, you will need the Beoplay app or mobile device to skip songs which is inconvenient. The A1 also gets hot and the volume will automatically lower itself to prevent overheating. I do like being able to use the Apple Watch and Beoplay App to change the tone based on content. BTW, there is a sound delay when connecting the AUX of the Bose Revolve+. I noticed this when trying to add the Revolve+ to my Airplay system. So, it is not sync compatible when using the AUX input. I hope this helps.
