I love this tablet! This tablet is the same hardware as the Galaxy Tab E Lite - with the quadcore CPU - but it comes preloaded with the *new* "Samsung Kids" app, and is ready to use for kids after just a brief parental setup out of the box. This is not the original "Kids Mode" (the one that ships with most Samsung devices, and is just a locked down mini-launcher with some cute entertainments built in for smaller children.). That one is fine, but this is the "Samsung Kids" system - and is a subscription-based service from Samsung that includes hundreds of curated apps for children ages 2-8, organized into learning categories and grouped by age. The Samsung Kids app itself does also function as a replacement launcher, "locking" the tablet into the "Samsung Kids" mode, and preventing inadvertent access to the tablet by children. But it's such a huge step up: All of the available apps have been tested and checked by Samsung staff, and have no ads, no in-app purchases, no questionable content, nothing nasty at all. All of the apps are presented in a catalog format, and the kids themselves can download and install (and remove!) the apps themselves, right from the launcher. I cannot tell you how awesome this is. Under the old Kids Mode, you'd have to install apps yourself, as a parent, which meant a lot of overhead time and configuration effort. With this new mode, you can literally just perform the setup, and then your kid can take over and explore a world of apps that will keep them happy, entertained, and LEARNING, for years to come. Anyone can purchase the Samsung Kids subscription for $59.99/year (as of January 2017), BUT if you create the account from this particular tablet, you get a lifetime discount of 33% - reducing the subscription cost to only $39.99/year. One subscription covers up to three kids, who can either share one device (each taking turns and having their own profile), or (better yet) can each use their own device on the same subscription. This is a fantastic investment in childhood education, and parental sanity, and is well worth it. Another home run for us all, thanks to Samsung!
