Almost Perfect....almost...
I have been on a search for the perfect stick vacuum and while this one is very good; it misses the mark to perfection in a couple of key points. That being said, this was the one I chose to keep. Pros: - Very powerful – when you put the suction into “High” mode, it does a great job - Good selection of tools. In particular, the inclusion of the hose (why don’t they all do this?) - Relatively easy to navigate with the powerhead - Convenient LED’s on the powerhead - Large dust canister with quick empty feature is relatively easy to clean - Nice packaging and documentation - Second battery - Excellent packaging - Three phase power (Low, Medium(default), High) - The Hepa filter is on the exhaust, not part of the intake system - Convenient tool holder Cons: - Requires you to keep your finger on the trigger at all times - Somewhat heavy compared to its competition - The large dust cannister makes it a bit unwieldy when you are using hand-attachments - Since you need to keep your finger on the trigger, the hose attachment is particularly problematic (I solved this with a Velcro wire tie to hold the trigger down when using the hose) - No holder for the second battery - It’s white – I’ve only used it once and it looks dirty already (What were they thinking?) - The “start off in medium speed, click for high, then for low” is a bit confusing - While the plastic all feels “high quality” there is a lot of it, particularly in places where it should be metal. The inclusion of the second battery not only extends the cleaning time (You can just swap off the old battery and put it on the charger), but will undoubtedly extend the life of the unit as you are fully draining the battery every time (Even L-ION can develop some memory). This could have been very convenient if they had only provided a holder that the battery clipped into. As it is, you need to create a place to store the extra battery and manually put it on the charger. I also don’t understand why they did not provide a way of clipping the unit into the holder and charging it there if you want to (the charger socket inexplicably faces “up” instead of down as the unit is hanging). The decision to put the dust canister on top was, perhaps, not the best idea. Other units have the dust canister hang below the unit. This does allow for a much larger dust canister, but at the expense of nimble feel. The navigation also feels a bit “looser” than the other units I’ve used…somehow less precise. I think this is because the clips holding the various parts of the unit together are not the best quality. They’re not bad, but you get that “plastic on plastic” feel instead of metal on metal you’d get with a Dyson. Also important is to read the cleaning instructions – unlike some other units, the hepa filter is actually on the top on the exhaust. This means that most of the “heavy duty” filtering has already taken place before it hits the filter (this is the little white folded paper-filter unit). I found in some other units that this clogged up and required washing with every dust-bin empty – the eufy does not require this and the recommendation is to wash the filters once a month (after which you need to let them dry for 24 hours before use). Eufy offers this in two models: a basic package for $199 and this delux model for $249. The difference is that you get a spare battery and a soft roller brush for your extra $50. I don’t know what you would use the soft brush for as the standard Kevlar brush does a good job already, but if you were to buy the extra battery separately, it would cost an additional $80, so the $249 is a good deal. In general, the competition is about $100 cheaper, but you give up a lot of features (and remember, the extra battery alone is worth $80). Overall, this unit is so close to perfect, yet it missed the mark on several key features. Here’s what would improve this to a 5 star Dyson beater: - Make the on-off switch the button on the top and make the trigger switch between low/medium and high (in that order). - Provide a second holder for the battery and make it “clip in and charge” at the same time - Reverse the location of the battery socket and provide the same “clip in to charge” for the handle unit - Make it black - Put a little more effort into the connectors to give it that “quality” feel If you can live with these niggles this is definitely one to consider. If you don’t feel you need the extended time, you can elect to go the basic route and pass on the extra battery.
