A good multi-purpose appliance
My convection oven was commandeered by my sister, and my toaster died, so I was in the market for a new multipurpose appliance that could cover a lot of bases, so I did not have my counter covered in appliances. Along came the Ninja Foodi. I was really interested in the flip-up feature. That was really intriguing to me. To be able to fold down a nice deep oven, but not have it take up a substantial part of the kitchen counter. In reality, it is only a little longer than the 4-piece toaster I had, and when it is flipped up, it does not come out from the wall any further.
The unit comes with a baking sheet and a fry basket. Both are needed in this off-size oven. It is good to have something that can maximize the area if the oven.
The display is really well done. Turn the knob on the front to select the way you want to cook the food. Then you can press buttons to switch between time and temperature. I like how intuitive the setup is, and really easy to use. It also remembers what I was on last time, so when I had toast this morning, it will go back to toast again tomorrow.
I really like the size of the oven, internally. There is enough space for 9 slices of bread. I tend to eat sourdough, so I cannot get 9 slices of the wide bread in there, but I always have enough room. The door on the front folds down and away to give me enough room to be able to reach in with a pot holder to get the tray of food out.
I make toast in it, as was as baking. Both worked well. The one big issue I had was figuring out how to bake with it. When you set the temperature and the time, there is a preheat that begins. When the preheat was done, it just stated to countdown the timer. I was waiting for some sort of notification to get the food in the oven when preheated. It does not take long at all, and I found just to put the food in during the preheat time.
The other problem I had was with the beep at the end of the cook cycle. It is WAY too quiet. I put a frozen pizza in there, set the time for the 18 minutes and went about my business. I didn't hear the timer, and came in to find the light on, and the pizza sitting in there looking delicious and ready to eat. I am going to have to set a second timer to remind me of the super quiet beep from the machine.
One of the features I do really like is the toast feature. In the last 30 seconds or so of the toasting cycle, the light slowly turns on to reveal the toast, toasting. That is a great feature to be able to see your toast and stop the baking if the toast is ready to eat.
I have not yet tried the air fryer, but I think it is going to be really straight forward. I LOVE that they gave us a basket that fits the machine. With how well the baking went, I would imagine that Ninja has perfected the air fryer as well. I am also excited about the dehydrator. My wife has and old dehydrator that is huge and clunky and takes up the whole bottom of a closet. It will be great to transition over to a multi functional kitchen appliance like this.
There are a few issues with the machine, but overall they are very minor. There are a lot of great qualities to this machine. Don't think that it stops at the fold away gimmick. That is just the frosting on the very well made cake that is the Ninja Foodi.
