Needs to be maintained at least every other week
I've had this pump for 6 months now and I've come to figure out how to maintain it. A few months ago I accidentally popped the plastic cover off the intake side, and clumps of moldy goop fell out. Ew. Since then, I've been cleaning that part every week / other week. Last weekend, I accidentally popped off the internal cover to expose the impeller (little white fan looking thing) and found mold under there too. But the pump stopped and started after I cleaned it last week. It continued to work just fine but then it died after I cleaned it today. So I did the unthinkable - I read the manual (easily found online). Turns out you can pull the impeller out. When I did, a nasty long mold booger came slithering out. Gross but works a charm again!
Now I know to periodically pop off those three parts and give 'em a once over. Maintenance should be easy moving forward (rinse vs brush) now that I know how to maintain it. Having taken this thing apart, it's easy to see that there's not much to fail. The impeller simply spins off a magnet. My money is on the pump 'failing' due to internal obstruction as opposed to a faulty magnet.
