FREAKING AWESOME - I cut the cord and I was VERY VERY hesitant to do so. I was worried about not having some of the channels I watched a lot of - ESPN, HGTV and some others but I will get to that in a minute. I was also worried about not being able to PAUSE live TV. Well the TIVO Roamio = AWESOMENESS. I have an HDTV over the air antenna I get ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX and PBS KIDS in perfect clarity and they have plenty of sports and shows. It is so easy to set up a recording and get the TiVo to keep recording the shows I like. I can pause the adult shows when my kid walks into the room and I can pause her shows when I need to get her attention (TV is crack to a child). For my cord cutting benefit there is NO monthly service charge for the Roamio - 400$ after taxes and that will be paid for in 3 months of not paying 135$ per month to DirecTV. Then I got Sling TV to cover my AMC and ESPN needs (20$/month) (Need to watch some sports and The Walking Dead). My other solutions to good programing are the following - I watch all of my Lakers Game in a 10 minute recap on YouTube, I watch Game of Thrones on HBO NOW 15$ per month (well worth it) and I have Amazon Prime 99$ per year with all sorts of awesomeness (2 day shipping, music, and lots of PRIME shows to watch all for the low price of 99/year or 8.25/month) - so all told by cutting the cord DirecTV - $1620/year never ending TiVo - $400 initial set up HBO $ 15/month = 180/year Sling $20/month = 240/year Amazon $8.25/month = 99/year 1st year = $919 year 2 and beyond = $519/year 5 years of DirecTv = $8,100 5 years of new set up = $2995 Savings of ~ $5,105 - FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS SAVED as long as these prices don't change too much! Take the plunge - cut the cord and save some $$$$$ OK been 6 months since I cut the cord - best decision EVER! I also found out that I did some bad math above. I split HBO with two friends (5$ each per month). I already had both internet (60/month) and amazon prime (for the free deliveries) so that would have been a wash. so basically I pay 300$/year for Sling/HBO and the TiVo is a one time set up. 5x300 + 400 and antenna 40 = 1940 for 5 years not 3K. So even more savings than thought. - basically I have 6 grand to spend on entertainment of MY choosing or Saving or Vacationing.
