★★★★☆
Android 10 has made this a great phone, finally.
They have this phone priced just right. I got it from Amazon which was linked directly from the Nokia site. I was worried that another vendor might sell an International Version without a warranty. Some ambiguity in the specifications were also a concern. This might clear it up. The US version has 3GB memory and 32GB RAM. Not 4GB memory. I put a 256GB SanDisk SDXC card in and it is recognized and working although some places they say the max is 128GB. The front glass is curved slightly so a flat twmpered glass prptector doesnt seal the edges, top, bottom or sides. It works, but I'm hoping someone will make one that fits better.
The phone came with Android 7.1.1. When it connected, it downloaded and installed Android 8.1.0.
The phone feels good. Nice size, weight and balance. It replaces my Motorola NEXUS 6 which was heavy, a bit too large, and had odd balance in the hand.
The weakness of this phone is its little mono speaker for media play. I use a Bluetooth speaker instead. A headphone jack is provided.
UPDATE
I've had the phone about 3 weeks. It has gone sluggish intermittently and crashed and restarted a couple times. With 8.1 Oreo APPS can't be moved to the SD card. The camera jpeg quality is very poor. The camera crashes on Panorama and seizes on stills.
I am now greatly disappointed and would not recommend this to anyone.
UPDATE 2
A few days ago I woke up in the middle of the night and my room was lit by the phone on my nightstand. I couldn't turn it off. I considered putting it in a drawer and waiting for the battery to deplete. I kept trying and eventually got it into recovery mode and selected the Reboot option. It didn't work. More attempts got me back to the recovery options where I wiped the system and reloaded it from cloud backup. It installed Oreo and Google Play restored my APPs.
The phone has been working much better than before. The camera is still slow to take its first shot and Chrome has a hesitation once in a while. The pictures from the camera are looking more like a real camera than they were.
Maybe the upgrade from 7.1.1 when I got the phone was the problem. Except for the hesitations in Chrome and camera startup the operation is normal.
If not, I'll update again
,.....................Another Update.....................
With Android 8.1 things are no better. Sluggish. Many screen freezes on common apps. The camera is the worst. It claims to be 15MP but it looks like a 4 MP picture scaled up to 15MP. If the picture is really 15MP you should be able to enlarge it on screen without pixelating. I've added a photo, straight from the camera. You can see the EXIF says it's 15MP. See for yourself.
,,..................... About the camera..............
The Camera APP zoom doesn't really work. Rather than doing a digital zoom, it crops out of the center of the view and saves the postage stamp size image. The APP CameraMX from the Play Store works correctly. Even with the Zeiss lens and a working APP it's not a great camera. The sensor must be some cheap generic industrial type. I had expected a lot better from all the pre-release hype and reviews.
7 months of freezes and crashes. The problems I noted are common with other reviewers. Will Android 9 Pie fix it? It has been released but rolling out slowly Let's give Nokia this one more chance before calling it a total loss.
UPDATE 11/6/2018
Android 9 Pie has been installed and the phone works as it should have from the beginning. I've been using it heavily today and there was not of the usual app crash and unresponsiveness we've been complaining about. The camera even works although I haven't checked the quality. Switching between apps is quick now. It feels like a good new phone. If this OS upgrade didn't fix the miserable performance issues of the last 7 months I was ready to buy an OnePlus6. Thanks to Nokia and Google for a working OS, finally. I've upgraded the rating to 4 stars and if the camera actually works as I expect I'll come back and add another.
Update to BUY.......11/16/2018
All is good now since Oreo update. The price is now below $200. No-brainer to buy.
One niggle...why does it have bezels top and bottom and not use them for speakers and navigation buttons? Instead they put the soft buttons on the screen and a single speaker on the bottom.
Well, if that's all I can find fault with I'll stick with my approval and buy recommendation.
January 2020 update to Android 10 in the USA has fixed all the problems bit the phone is no longer available new. It's a solid phone. A pre-owned unit should be considered.
