Great watch BUT know what you want
The bottom line for this review goes first. This watch is great IF you know what you want and know what you are getting. Let’s review some of the aspects you should be aware of before purchasing this watch. The first is to make sure you order the watch with the color band that you want. Note that the GWG 1000- 1A3JF has a military green band while this watch, the GWG-1000-1AJF, has a black band. You may not catch this from the pictures and be like me and order the GWG 1000-1A3JF by mistake only to return it for this model with the black band. Secondly, it is important that you understand that this watch is BIG in case size (56mm) and thickness depth (18mm). If you are looking for slick watch on the thinner size this is probably not your choice. Thirdly, note that this model is both analog and digital. The actual time has the traditional hour, minutes and second hands but the functions (date, world time, alarm, etc.) are displayed in a digital window. To me this aspect is the best of both worlds but many people would probably prefer straight analog or a straight digital display. Again, in deciding on this watch you need to know what you like. Finally, you should feel a little desire to have an altimeter, barometer and compass (often referred to as an ABC watch) reading function on your watch. If you have no interest in being able to access elevation, barometric pressure and take a compass reading than you probably don’t want to own a watch with these extras. Finally, the higher cost can be a factor and you really need to feel ok about paying a little more than the average watch cost.
For the watch crowd out there that have owned G-Shocks in the past, this is definitely a top of the line Casio. This is from a guy who possesses quite a few other G-Shock watches including the GPS model. The function buttons are larger and easier to push (you other owners know what I am talking about). It also has the newer fly back crown for easy adjustments. The sensors are the latest version for more accurate readings. The band I am assuming is carbon fiber since it is a Japanese model as opposed to the usual resin material band. However, it does not say this on the band so I cannot be 100% positive. Of course it has solar power and atomic timekeeping (must have options in my opinion).
I feel strongly that the buyer should have some previous G-Shock owner experience and not make this your first Casio purchase. But if you are aware of what you want in a watch and like a larger watch with multifunction features this model is the best out there.
