Got an early copy
I got an early copy of this book. I found it both compelling and fascinating. In spite of the attacks that get aimed at Dr Mann ultimately I believe history and science will vindicate him. In particular I found it interesting that the original focus of his research was natural factors of climate change. In fact it was Mann himself who coined the term AMO (Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation) which climate "skeptics" like to hang their hat on. I believe Mann when he states that they were not looking for the hockey stick. The hockey stick merely came out of the data. What is also interesting is reading through these reviews. It's clear that Mann's work is threatening to a certain group of hard right-wing folks who choose to reject the science. Not only has Mann been the target of high profile attacks but right here in these reviews readers from WattsUpWithThat have been encouraged and directed to come here and comment. I have serious doubts that many of them have read the book but they know the attack plan by heart. Dr Mann, if you're reading this, it is you who have been made the Galileo of our time by the outrageousness of right-wing anti-science politics. It's certainly a dubious distinction that I would not wish upon anyone but you bear the burden well. I admire your willingness to stand up and fight back.
