Meet Abby!
Admittedly I had reservations about buying this laziness-enabling product. After reading tons of reviews ensuring me that my laziness was acceptable and this robot would clean even a cluttered floor (can you say teenage stepsons?) I bit the bullet.
On day one I charged and ran the Roomba. I followed it around a little to see where it would go. What a weird, random course it took! I was happy to see it avoid a fall (split level) and push a flip-flop (instead of running it over). By the time it was done and successfully self-redocked, I felt comfortable programming it to run the next day unsupervised.
The following three days I came home to find it undocked, stuck somewhere until its battery drained. Between two chairs, under the dishwasher, and on a pile of clothes in a bedroom with the drawstring of a sleeping bag cover wrapped up in its brush. We even made a game out of it--the Guess Where The Roomba Will Get Stuck Tomorrow game.
It was doing great supervised, but I couldn't trust it to finish is work on its own. I decided to try a psychological tactic.
Since Roomba backwards spells Abmoor, I decided her name should be Abby. And since she has a name, she should have a face, right? So 10 packages of adhesive jewels later, plus a giant pair of googly eyes, Abby was ready to be introduced to the world!
That was four days ago, and she hasn't gotten stuck since! Everyday when I come home the floors look amazing, her belly is full, and she's docked and ready for tomorrow!
At first I wasn't sure if she'd make the cut, but once I gave her an identity, and therefore a place in my family, she worked great!
