Pushes the envelope but not too far...
Catch Phrase is a huge family favorite - always multiple generations playing at family gatherings - so I was curious about this new "uncensored" edition.
Given the description, I was expecting a Catch Phrase version of Cards Against Humanity, which is not what I would call a family-friendly game. But this was not nearly as vulgar as I expected.
To begin, the categories in this edition are: Things and Stuff; World Wide What; You Never Know; Entertained; and Pick Me. With the exception of Entertained, there did not seem to be any theme within each category.
And while there were definitely some words that I would not feel comfortable using in a mixed generation family situation, most were more acceptable than I expected. My bigger observation is that this version is more generational - I passed on many words more because I did not know the person or phrase rather than the word or description being too vulgar.
Also, many words had dual interpretations. Given that this edition is called "uncensored," a college student might describe the word "missionary" differently than me - I gave clues for a religious volunteer.
Some words were actually acronyms, such as "FUBAR" and "LMFAO."
This edition is very contemporary - think Urban Dictionary - so for some players it may be more challenging than other versions of the game.
But if you like previous editions of Catch Phrase, I would definitely recommend giving this edition a try - just know that it does push the envelop a bit.
