2 years of driving this thing recklessly and it still works perfectly
Background:
Bought this in 2016 (2 years ago) and used it to commute to classes on campus pretty much every day. Charged it throughout classes. Now I use it to ride through Boston from time to time. Still works perfectly well.
Brakes:
I've driven this down a steep hill at max speed and still managed to brake to a full stop within seconds. The brakes are as strong as you want to make them. They were a bit harsh at first, but I got used to tuning the strength after a few tries.
Weather:
It works pretty well in the rain, but puddles are a bit slippery and I've fallen a few times making sharp turns on wet ground. Completely my fault, this product isn't meant to support driving through such conditions, but it's definitely possible if you go slow and don't drive as recklessly as I do.
I've driven it through mild snow conditions multiple times as well - the salt on the ground used to counter ice tends to get stuck in the wheels, but water + oil fixes that very easily.
Portability:
Extremely portable. I usually fold it up as I'm walking into a building (yes, while moving). I've done it so often that I can go from riding it to pulling the dolly version within 5 seconds. I've carried it up stairs (it's only 20-some lbs or so) and in elevators. I kept it next to me in classes. At the time of purchase, I couldn't find a single other scooter as portable as this one.
Novelty:
From my experience, you'll get a mix of compliments and strange looks from random people. It's definitely a head-turner when blazing through a college campus.
Issues:
- The material used to hold the bell in place the left handle isn't that great, and my bell is pretty much dislocated. I could probably put in the effort to patch it up with some glue and rubber, but I rarely used it anyways.
- When driving through dirt/water/mud, the back wheel tends to kick it upwards. If you're driving in these conditions, and wearing a backpack, you'll probably find the bottom of it housing undesired substances from the ground.
ProTips:
As with most 2-wheeled vehicles, it's easier to balance at high speeds.
(It's definitely possible to drive at low speeds though - I frequently drove at walking speeds whilst accompanying my wheel-less friends to classes.)
Last remarks:
I bought this at $800 in 2016. At the time of writing, it's $600. If I had known the price would drop $200 in 2 years, I still would *not* have delayed my purchase. This scooter is extremely useful, has saved me many hours of time I would've had to spend walking or waiting for shuttles, and is very enjoyable to ride.
