This is a great scratch post. It has almost entirely spared our couch of scratching. We've had the post for about 2 years and the top half of the post was pretty well tattered. You can see in my first image that the fibers are coming out and in some places the burlap material is worn completely through. Instead of buying a new post (which I would happily do), I decided to see if I could flip the post around so that the cats were scratching the unused bottom part of the post. Fortunately you can!! You'll need 4 mm and 3 mm allen wrenches and a phillips screw driver to disassemble the base and top. Once removed, flip the post upside down and use 1/8th and 5/32 drill bits to drill new holes for the screws to go into using the existing holes as a guide. After flipping the post upside down, I used scissors to trim off the fibers that were hanging loosely off the worn part of the post. After two years of hard use by two cats, the post is almost like new again. I hope to get another two years of use out of it and then will happily buy a second one.
