All of my life I have had to change toilet seats every few years and/or fool with their hinges. The problem is that the toilet is made out of porcelain, which means you cannot torque down the crap plastic bolts that keep the toilet seat from sliding when you sit on it. And that means that over time, the toilet seat has a tendency to slide around (which puts pressure on the cheap plastic bolts to break), even if you use rubber compression washers. That and the fact that the plastic bolts come loose often and have to be retightened and are generally a pain to fool with. Also the underside of any toilet, no matter how clean the human who uses it is, becomes surfaced from constant exposure to human waste, humidity and water. Enter Bemis, who decided to rethink the whole toilet seat attachment system. With Bemis, they have two long plastic screws with round heads on them that slide down through the bolt holes on the toilet base (and you can tighten them fairly snug). You then snap the toilet seat onto the two plastic heads of these screws and then swivel the caps into the lock position. Not only does it make installing the seat much easier, but it does not move around at all and if you ever want to remove the seat for cleaning, it takes 5 seconds. As to the finish, Bemis has some type of plastic type coating over the wood that really outlasts all the other toilet seats I have used in my home in the past. It won't last forever, but my three Bemis seats are still going strong (one, after seven years) compared to the roughly 2-3 years that I get from a normal toilet seat. The finish is very strong and I do not have the usual degradation or yellowing I see with every other toilet seat. When you combine the easy attachment system with the better finish and the reasonable price, you have a five star product. I never thought in my life I would spend time reviewing a toilet seat, but these Bemis' ones are special. I highly recommend for arses everywhere:)
