know what you are buying. you will hate this, but you will survive for 72 hrs.
Review summarized: In an EMERGENCY, where you face the IMMINENT THREAT OF STARVATION, you WILL survive for 3 more days on this product, but you will not enjoy it. There are not enough nutrients in this product. You’d do well to bring some multivitamins and gatorade. But do not think you can survive for more than a week on this crap. SUGAR. FLOUR. SHORTENING. That is what you are paying for. if you’ve ever eaten nothing but sugar cookies for breakfast lunch and dinner for 3 whole days, that is what it is like to subsist on this product. The flavor is sweet and pleasant… at first. But it grows old RRRREAL quick. the package is compact, and easy to store. however, any tiny puncture or rip will compromise the seal. I got around this by creating a little cardboard sheath that wrapped around the package like a small box. DO NOT store this in your BOB without wrapping it in something. A button, a clip, a zipper, any metal bit will be enough to tear the package and spoil the seal. So wrap it before you pack it. I ordered 3, one to test, one for the car, and one for the Misery Bag (see below). One of the packages arrived with a compromised seal, but I messaged the seller about it and they promptly replaced it, no questions asked. so that’s a plus. At the time of writing this, I have spent the past 72 hours subsisting on nothing but this product and tap water. let me tell you: I am not a happy camper right now. But I am alive, and alert, AND I had enough energy to have completed my daily 5k run in full bugout gear through hilly forested terrain. This last one is important. I’ve seen other comments on this product that is designed for “hunker down” survival in a lifeboat or a fallout shelter, where daily energy, protein, and mineral burn will be low, and are not meant for a bugout situation where you’ll be running, climbing, jumping, and crawling for your life to escape a dangerous threat. and I agree. But I think for a 3-day bug-out (not longer) this could be sufficient if you can get to a better food source after that. I have ran, jumped and climbed my way through 15 kilometers of Pennsylvania forests in the past 72hrs (which I know isn’t a lot, but it’s not nothing), and I’m still alive enough to type this. But do NOT horde a hundred of these and expect to ride out the apocalypse. A brief tangent: Why did I buy this? Why would I buy them again? This product work for me ONLY because I am creating an experimental, <5lb, ultra compact 72hr bag, with only the bare essentials to not die for 3 days (something for when my full BOB is not available). This 3600 calories is the only thing compact enough to fit in with a few lifestraws, a lighter, a tiny led flashlight, a pocket knife and a med kit. I have grown to call this “The Misery Bag”, for obvious reasons, and it is designed to last me 72hrs and not a minute more, just so I can reach my bob. That is what this product will last you. Even if you bring more than one. The body can only survive on carbs and sugar for a so long. Even now, I can feel my body going into nutrient debt. As I’m typing this, my quivering muscles ache for much needed protein. my eyes hurt, I feel sick. I just took a piss and it was DARK orange. I don’t know what that means but I can safely say that these are NOT suitable for a long term bugout period of more than a few days. It simply doesn’t have enough vitamins or protein. You will go crazy just having to choke these things down for longer than that. These are for last ditch emergencies. Where there is NO OTHER FOOD OPTION. if you can conceivably pack MREs or some kind of dried or preserved jerky or veggies, do that instead. damn I feel sick. I want a salad covered in bacon… and a cheesesteak Now, I’m a small guy, 5’10” and 150lbs. So if you’re larger, this product might not cut it. I wanted to test how much physical activity I could do with only this for fuel. So once a day I went on a 5 kilometer run/hike, while carrying 20lb bag. It was not easy. It was not fun. But I did it. Now, I know that 15k in 72 hrs is not a lot, but work 9-5 so I don’t know what else to tell you. I’m not in the BEST shape, but I’m no couch potato. So if the question is “could I feasibly cover some ground on this stuff?” the answer is “yes, but not much” IN CONCLUSION, I am literately sick to my stomach and dead tired of eating this product and nothing else for 3 days. I can’t imagine having to go for weeks on this stuff. For any POSSIBLE bug-out scenario that would involve a time period of greater than 72 hours, PACK MREs. REAL FOOD. NOT THIS. HOWEVER. For an honest-to-god 72 hr bag, this will do. You will not die. And you will have the energy/wits to cover some ground/fight for your survival. But you will hate it. And you WILL wish you had packed some vitamins.
