Awesome device, works better than advertised, case is extra
I have used this device extensively and I have found that it works extraordinarily well on newer wiring (Romex). I bought this tester in December of 2019 and it's worked great since that time. I use it weekly and once you get a "feel" for it, the tester works well. You have to be a lunkhead not to get this work. My home was built in 1992 and over time, the cheap, builder grade switches and outlets have begun to fail. I've changed the old ones out with new Lutron versions. I've found that about 50% of the labels on my panels box were wrong or incomplete. This tester has made the process of locating the proper breakers and swapping out the old/new switches and outlets foolproof and simple. It allows me to properly label my panel box as well. The full kit contains the following (case is extra): - Probe - Transmitter - GFCI tester - 3 prong to 2 prong plug converter - Light bulb connection - Bare wire connector - case is extra - multiple versions are available on Amazon Pro: -Simple to use. Plug the tester into the desired circuit outlet or bulb (adapter for bulbs included), it lights up to show power to the circuit and has a GFCI tester as well. Power up the location wand and slowly move it over the breakers and it glows and beeps continuously. -You get a sense for when you are on the right circuit with experience and the "wand" lets you know. Yes, if you hold the wand over the main power breaker, it will tell you it's powered breaker because technically it is - but you'll turn off the entire house with that breaker. -Small, lightweight, reasonably priced, the full kit is versatile Con: -I have not used this tester on old knob and tube two wire circuits - they may present an issue but I'm not sure. - Case is extra - it needs a case for the larger kit Overall, this is terrific circuit locator/tester. I just used it prior to writing this review to locate a 20-amp garage outlet circuit with a GFCI that was labeled "appliance" on the panel box. Electricians..... I have NO idea why some "professional" electricians are so lazy about properly marking circuits - use a label maker and do it right. I'm not a licensed electrician but I know "lazy" when I see it. Hope that helps! From my experience, this is a great acquisition. Hope that helps.
