As an avid reader, I took advantage of my wife's free pre-release book since Prime is under her account. Houghton is an established author, penning three Gabe Quinn thrillers and No Coming Back, a stand-alone thriller. In the same vein, Before You Leap is his latest standalone psychological thriller set in Florida. Kyle and Greg, plus one hostage; barricades blocking progress, SWAT on the scene. Three-days earlier, the story begins. Zane Murdoch, after about a decade, was acquitted of murdering Greg's sister. How he did this, and the timing of why, is explained well enough. Greg, a psychotherapist who shouldn't drink, is now confronted with the fact that his sister's killer has been free for ten years; identity and location unknown. Losing a twin can create a void; its associated pain and longing can cause a sibling to do some crazy things: like face a dark, depressing past, and taking risk to seek closure. Toss in a best friend who happens to enjoy pushing the boundaries of law, and you've got a roller-coaster story.
