Loved this- dark, intense, emotional and angsty!
This came my way after reading a very lighthearted, sweet, low angst, clean romance and it really couldn't have hit my kindle at a more perfect time. It was exactly what I needed- a dark, intense, angsty, enemies to lovers, second chance romance. The Words starts when Phoenix and Lennon are in their last few months of high school. Phoenix is that bad boy, do whatever he wants and still do no wrong kind while Lennon has been fat shamed and endlessly bullied. Their paths cross when a teacher guilts Lennon into tutoring Phoenix so he can graduate. Things start off rocky between them, but over time they open up to each other and get to know each other and it seems like things are headed to a good place but then Phoenix does something that completely breaks Lennon and they go their separate ways. The story picks up again several years later when something happens that forces them back into close contact for a period of time. This is one of those stories that you can just lose yourself in. It deals with incredibly heavy topics at times and is dark, intense and emotional and yet I found myself many times laughing out loud as I was reading. I loved this story and hope the author plans to write more with the side characters from this one. I highly recommend diving in to this as soon you can.
