We used it on our cruise to Alaska and it was lightweight and powerful enough to carry everywhere we went. It worked well for my kids who probably couldn't handle larger binoculars. We went to Best buy before our trip to try out some of the bigger Nikons that were on sale for $75 and didn't think they were any better. They were also much bigger. Maybe they had other features we didn't know about but if that was the case we didn't need them. We thought we might get the larger ones for adults and this one for the kids but this one suited both. I really didn't like the idea for carrying around bigger and heavier binoculars everywhere. This for the price this was perfect for travelling with kids. On a side note on the cruise my inlaws bought similar size binoculars to use that was about the same price and they weren't as good (different brand). Even though it said it had the same power as this one when we compared them this one is definately more powerful.
