A year and a half of using this and I'm never going back. Cleaner, less sensitive, and way prettier!
Though pricier than I'd like for toothpaste, this stuff really does work and a tube lasts a pretty good length of time if you use small amounts. FWIW I use a pea-sized dot twice a day and I get around 3-ish months out of a single tube which is longer than any Sensodyne tube lasts me. So, upfront cost is high, but overall I find it to be quite reasonable and as such I'm more than happy to spend on it. I got tired of spending extra money on importing Sensodyne (for those not aware, the non-US version of Sensodyne has NovaMin far better for treating sensitivity than the US version) for results that, to me, were barely an improvement on whatever random toothpaste I could pick up at the grocery store. I started googling alternatives and after nixing any options that were clearly nonsense (no fluoride, no desensitizing agents, basically garbage in a tube for people afraid of any chemical ever) and this was one of them that popped up. I did a little research, looked at reviews, and decided this was the one I wanted to try. mHAP does have research articles showing it's effectiveness in treating sensitivity (equal to or superior to NovaMin which is found in the non-US version of Sensodyne) and that was good enough for me to at least give it a go. Within about a week or two I definitely noticed a marked improvement in how much pain I felt when enjoying ice cream or having a really cold drink. A year and a half on, and my teeth feel like a new set almost! The sensitivity isn't gone and I doubt it ever will be, but it's leagues better than it ever was. I still have to avoid biting into an ice cream cone with my front teeth, but there's no more weird mouth dance with cold food so they can stop hurting for a moment when I eat. And when i'm out running in the Winter? My teeth don't flip out from the cold wind which is amazing. Beyond just making my teeth feel closer to normal, this toothpaste also leaves them feeling a lot cleaner. I have a few rough spots on some back teeth from when I had my braces taken off that weren't smoothed out quite a well as my front teeth and after using this for a while, they feel a bit smoother. The same applies for plaque buildup when it's getting close to time for my next professional cleyaning too. I have a bonded retainer on my bottom teeth and anyone with one of those knows how bad plaque and tartar can get with those suckers. Now? I barely get any at all and when I go for my dental cleanings every six months my dentist only has to bring out the little scaping tool to get the super tiny spaces at the very tops of my teeth where his water pick can't quite blast the plaque off. What used to take a good 10 minutes for 6 teeth now takes like 3 tops. My dentist was always thrilled with how clean my teeth were prior to this but now it's like I always hear about how he wishes his other patients with bonded retainers can't be as easy as me. And lastly, this stuff helps stave off staining like astonishingly well. I'm a coffee and tea hound and drink at least 3-4 cups a day of one or the other or both. I rarely use whitening strips anymore since initially starting using this. Maybe 1-2 in an entire year to just make sure I get the very edges of my teeth that are primarily cleaned by flossing and don't get as large a dose of the toothpaste as the surface, but I honestly can barely even tell after 6 months that my teeth have picked up any discoloration anymore. It's really nice not having to spend $80 a year on whitening strips because I actually have a toothpaste that prevents staining. A word of caution though for those that are cavity prone: This does NOT have fluoride in it. Apagard says it has an anti-caries effect and due to it's nature of remineralization of teeth I don't doubt that, but fluoride is a great ingredient for preventing cavities. My advice, if you buy this, supplement with a mouthwash that contains fluoride like ACT just to get an extra dose of good stuff to help prevent decay.
