Good doghouse at a great price
This is an excellent dog house, for the price ($60 when we purchased it), and really deserves higher ratings. It's not perfect, but nothing else I saw anywhere near this price range even came close, in attractiveness, size, or simplicity.
It does snap together quickly and easily, and really looks nice. The plastic is strong and sturdy, but not too thick or heavy, so the assembled house is easy to move.
In the couple months we've had it, ours has already taken some abuse, yet still looks great. Our 3 1/2mth old German Shepherd/Lab mix enjoys going inside his house to violently (and very loudly) murder his stuffed toys by bashing them into the walls. Also, as you can see from the attached photo, in times of emergency, the roof is strong enough to support the weight of a 10-year old girl. My 11.5-year old son and 14 year old daughter have also both helpfully verified that yes, they can each fit inside this house. Actually, I think a neighbor child or two has also been inside. Apparently children really dig this house, too.
We have ours sitting on a brick porch which helps with stability, so I would recommend a hard, flat, surface for this - as well as a sheltered spot, if possible. We haven't had this through a winter, yet, but so far, this summer, it has at least not turned into a furnace, and our puppy still goes inside his house from time to time, though he's currently enjoying a phase of "I'm a free wild thing and sleep in the dirt."
The only small complaint I have is that I wish they'd put a tiny overhang above the door, to help divert rain dripping in. Granted, we haven't even tried attaching the included door flaps yet, because I know our dog will immediately rip them off and eat them, so I can't fault the manufacturer for that. We have serious storms around here, and without the flaps, the rain does naturally blow all in the open door. So if your dog, like mine, can not be trusted with the responsibility of leaving door flaps alone like a sensible creature, then be ready to have a Plan B during high winds and rain. In less-enthusiastic rainfall, though, it stays tight and dry, with no leaks.
Bottom line: this is a basic, no-frills doghouse, but nice quality, and you simply won't beat it for the price.
