Works well, great price
I bought this for my 2008 Honda Civic with has an aux port but no bluetooth. If I wanted to listen to music on my phone I had to deal with plugging the phone in to the aux port and arranging cables and such. I was a little skeptical because this device was so cheap but I figured it was worth a try.
1. Installation:
Installation is literally plug and play. It comes with a 12v adapter with two USB ports so you plug it into the lighter adapter and still have a port to plug in your phone for charging with a USB cord. The audio cable simply plugs into the aux port. Some reviewers complained that the cable split between the audio and power connections was too short. In my car the aux port is right underneath the 12v port so it was not an issue
2. Paring
This device pared with my Samsung Galaxy S3 without any trouble. Just connect like you would any other bluetooth device. The included instructions are easy to understand.
3. Connecting / Reconnecting.
The SoundBot connects with my phone within seconds of starting the car. Pressing the button on top will restart any playback that was going before. My wife has a 2013 Honda Pilot Touring. This vehicle has built in bluetooth audio and phone. The SoundBot connects in about a quarter of the time the Honda factory system connects. Additionally, I have to sometimes restart the bluetooth on my phone to connect to the Honda factory system in the pilot. So far after several weeks of use, the SoundBot has connected every time without my intervention.
4. Audio Quality
The audio quality is no different than connecting directly via cable as far as I can tell. Of course, this is in a car where there are other environmental noises which impact the listening environment. Perhaps you could tell the difference in a different vehicle.
5. Phone quality
When I've made calls with this device the people on the other end have told me they are able to clearly hear me and understand me. Sometimes hands-free systems have poor intelligibility. This one does not. The one downside is that the unit seems to have a noise gate which causes your signal to quiet when you aren't talking. This may make the person on the other end think the call dropped if you aren't speaking. NOTE: Location the device is mounted may impact call quality if the device can't pick up your voice well.
Over all I'm happy with this unit. It works without me having to think about it.
