PLEASE Read The Directions... This Is An *Outstanding* Litter Box, When Used Properly!
I have been using ScoopFree Ultra Self-Cleaning Litter Boxes since 2006, and believe they are the best product of their kind on the market. This will be my first Taupe one, though. I was hoping to find more comprehensive reviews and photos, as my experience so far is with the Purple hooded models. but it's experience that clearly needs to be shared. :)
The review that so astounded me was by someone who didn't understand the very basic concept of using the BOX the litter comes in, as a vital element of the Unit.
They CLEARLY poured the crystal litter directly into the plastic ScoopFree Unit and didn't use the treated cardboard litter BOX, that slides into the Unit and functions as a temporary disposable litter BOX.
When the time comes to change the litter, you slide the treated BOX of soiled litter out, put the TOP back back on the BOX, and you have one very neat and tidy BOX of soiled litter ready for the garbage can. I prefer to be extra neat and tidy and slide the securely covered box of soiled litter into a 13 gallon trash bag and tie the top of the bag, so absolutely NONE of the soiled (wet) litter spills out.
The CRYSTAL LITTER should NEVER touch the plastic bottom of the ScoopFree Unit. If some soiled litter does get on the plastic, because (as shown in the photos) the BOX was never used in the first place.. and then far too much time passed before attempting to change the litter! I find this very hard to believe, but in this case, the plastic should THEN, be carefully cleaned using Soft Scrub with Bleach to clean and disinfect the plastic unit, then RINSE it VERY carefully so as not to get ANY water or moisture of any kind into the electrical mechanism! Then DRY the plastic unit THOROUGHLY with paper towels, so it is totally DRY, before SLIDING the BRAND NEW CLEAN & DRY BOX OF LITTER, with the LID removed, and saved for the next time, to do the VERY SIMPLE task of sliding out the BOX of soiled litter in its shiny treated cardboard box. To be ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN you don't LOSE the TOP, you can "double box" the bottom, by setting your clean cardboard box of fresh litter right into what WAS the TOP, NOW TURNED OVER, to receive the box of litter, so you have two thicknesses of cardboard protecting the plastic, and can now very easily replace the TOP onto the BOX, the next time you change the litter.
I find this kind of MAJOR error impossible to believe.. but THIS is how you clean up the mess, and start fresh, for next time.
This is the easiest and most sanitary litter box that exists, IF YOU FOLLOW THE VERY SIMPLE DIRECTIONS!
I bred Ragdoll Show Cats for many years and HIGHLY recommend this wonderful SCOOPFREE litter box to everyone with cats.
I would also like to point out that the 45 days is the absolute maximum for ONE cat. (They assume you have SOME common sense and would NEVER subject a cat to such FILTH!)
If you have more than ONE cat, the rule of thumb is ONE litter box per Cat, PLUS ONE! So If you have 3 cats, you would have 4 litter boxes.
Cats need to be kept in an extremely clean environment, the great thing about the SCOOPFREE is the cat is never exposed to excrement, as it is raked away, after each use. I always add a little fresh litter as the days pass, and have never tried to go for 45 days, it would be difficult to calculate with multiple cats. Let's just say.. if you wouldn't feel comfortable touching the litter, it is too soiled for your cat or kitten to walk on.. and then track around your home and into your bed.
Properly used, these are amazingly wonderful, easy to manage, litter boxes and I highly recommend them!!
