I love this car seat
I am a Britax loyalist. We had a chaperone infant seat, and then moved our two boys (4 and 1) up into an Advocate 70 CS and a 70 CS G3 when they were each around 9 months. We totaled our car last weekend, and our insurance paid to replaced both seats with the G4. Compared to the 70 CS, the 70 CS G3 hugs chest pads had a second strap (for positioning I think) that was a pain to loosen, but then the lower buckle had a well designed, sturdy, angled pad that kept in the right place when putting your child in the seat - saving me from digging it out from under him every time. The G4 has gone back to a single strap chest pad, but kept the lower buckle positioning system. The harness on the G4 also has less resistance when you are trying to loosen it. They also include a very plush infant positioning pad, but we are beyond that stage. After putting a lot of miles on the last two models of this seat, I feel like the G4 seems to have subtle, thoughtful improvements on the G3. I prefer Britax above all other seats we have tried/borrowed (graco, cosco) for the ease of installation, the high weight limits rear-facing, and for how SECURE they feel when installed. It is easy to tighten the latch straps down, and then the seat does. not. move. All other seats we have tried have TONS of wiggle (sometimes to the point where I can lift them off the seat) after I have struggled to get them in as tight as possible. And as an added bonus, the head protection 'wings' act like pillows and eliminate that 90 degree neck angle while sleeping issue that we've had in seats without head protection. This past weekend, my son and I were in an awful car accident where we rolled and then were struck by a truck while upside down. We were insanely lucky, our car was hit just-so, and we both walked away without a scratch. I had to unclip my son from an upside down car seat, and I was surprised by how 'in there' he was - his legs and arms were dangling, but his head and body were completely surrounded and secured in the seat, like he was still sitting right side up. This carseat is crazy expensive. It takes up a ton of space (you will never fit a third car seat in there). My family teases me for being over protective and buying a carseat that looks like a fricking space ship. But after rolling our car, I will never buy another brand. They are sturdy, they are plush and comfy, they are a breeze to install and adjust, they have tons of safety features, and the side impact protection is the best I have seen. If you can swing it, get the safer car seat, and cut back on something else.
