This KN-COSM-IBA is a direct replacement for my KN-COSM-IB which decided to announce it’s “End Of Life” fast double chirp every 30 seconds at 3:30am when everyone was asleep. The next day I ordered this new unit and received it on a cold day so I brought it into the house and let the new unit acclimate to the indoor temperature/humidity overnight. The next morning, per the instructions, I plugged in the three wire (Black, White, Red) connector that went to my old unit into this unit and then added the two AA batteries making sure the red spring tabs in the battery compartment were fitted under each battery. The unit immediately went into test mode. During the initial test, it 1) chirps three long chirps, announces “Fire”, chirps three long chirps.... then.... 2) chirps four quick chirps, announces “Warning - Carbon Monoxide”, chirps four quick chirps.... then.... 3) chirps one last chirp which means testing is done it is now ready to monitor the air in the room. The last thing to do was to mount the unit to the mounting plate that was used for the old KN-COSM-IB unit that was still attached to the ceiling. The whole process took less than 3-4 minutes from unboxing to testing to mounting the unit. I do want to state that this new KN-COSM-IBA unit has a slightly different warning /alarm pattern for Smoke, Carbon Monoxide, Low Battery and End Of Life than the older KN-COSM-IB and it is explained in the new owners manual. This new unit has a 10 year life span from the initial power-up sequence. Mine should be good till February of 2029....... Hopefully it’s “End Of Life” warning will be announced during the daylight hours and not in the middle of the night.......
