Tips for using the great product!
I am a women and took on the project from start to finish. I did allot of research before using the product. I was so scared it would not turn out ok because I live in a rain forest and we get allot of rain in Alaska.
I prepared the floor - I rented a power washer. I was following the directions; I used reviewers suggestions and left the cleaning solution on for at least 20 minutes. The cleaning solution is also an etcher. I scrubbed the floor and prepped it for about 3 hours. I also bought a degreaser for the parts of my garage where the furnace leaked oil and oil spots under the car. The better you prepare your floor the better the floor will turn out.
The key is the prep time - painting is the easy part. I let my garage floor dry completely for 2 days. I had seen complaints of those who did not let it dry and they had problems with peeling.
After the floor was scrubbed and cleaned - I bought a bunch of swifter dusting rags to take up any loose dirt or dust. It is imperative to get the floor in the condition you need.
Before I got started - I had a neighbor tell me he wished he would have added a non slip additive. His wife hates his floor because every time the floor gets wet she slips and falls. I did allot of research and found the Rustoleum 22242 - ST30 was the best product. I also read from another reviewer to only use 1/3 of the container per 1 gallon, even though the instructions say the whole pound. I am so happy I listened. Using 1/3 made the floor look great without looking like sand paper and it created a non slip surface.
I painted my garage in to part's because I could not empty it out all the way. Here is a couple of thing's I noticed about the temperature. The first half of the garage I painted the temperature was only 60 degrees (the minimum you need to apply the apoxi) The paint went on very thick and it covered about 210 square feet (1 kit) -
The second half of my garage was painted with the door closed because the temperature dipped to 50 degrees. I did not find the paint smell to bad and I cracked a window and ran a heater. The paint went ALLOT further with the temperature at 70 then it did at 60 - It covered 300 square feet.
Paint Chip Tips:
The paint chips in the kit are kind of dull so I bought nicer looking paint chips to spread over the area and I really like the look. Also, the kit includes one bag of paint chips. This really is not enough. It is so much better to buy more then you need and return it then not have enough. You really need 2 bags of paint chips, because once you start your project you only have 2 hours to finish it because the apoxi set's so fast.
