I bought this item because we were having a constant pest issue around our neighborhood, being next to a swampy, boggy, area probably doesn't help. However I honed in on this product as it looked effective and had the potential to be something more than just a simple Ultrasonic device. The first setting is pretty mild, keeps the mosquitos mostly at bay around here and most of the bugs and insects that tend to find their way inside from coming in. The second setting is much like the first but I can imagine it puts off a much stronger signal that really makes it a bit harsher for the pests coming in and around us as I noticed not seeing any critters / bugs outside when the thing is right next to the screen door. The third setting, ouch, wow, definitely not for an apartment complex with pets, but if its that bad for them, I can image in its equally bothersome for anything else, even to us. They make that very apparent in the instructions. I keep this thing mostly around the kitchen during the week and it seems to be doing the job fairly well, I am hoping this thing will last a long time and continue to be effective in its control. I would recommend this product to people that have an abundance of insects around or near their home and want them to steer clear, and don't feel like smelling / recharging their citronella all the time, or being constantly disturbed by a bug zapper going off every few seconds. While its mostly a deterrent device, its effective in that effect. Warning: Setting 3 will piss off dogs within a few hundred feet, as well as make some cats go a little nuts, if near a screen door, so DO NOT USE IT if there are pets around sensitive to ultrasonic.
