THE CORRECT DIRECTIONS
The bags did work as advertised. They reduced the baggage space. They remained compressed. There was only one problem- the directions for their use was incomplete and wrong.
In order to compress the filled bags one had to start the compression by sitting on the uncompressed bags until the release valve was opened. In fact, for some of bags one had to bounce up and down. Then, when the air in the bag started to be released (with a loud POP), one could roll up the bag. There was not any possibility of starting the compression by initially attempting to roll the filled bag.
