cat likes it so far, needs some new hardware before it meets international airline regulations
I ordered this kennel for my medium sized cat to use when we move from the U.S. to the London. Based on my research, it complies with almost all of the airline regulations for international transport of cats that are going to be in the cargo hold of the plane. Be aware that if you are traveling from a country other than the U.S. or Canada on British Airways, this kennel does not meet the minimum size requirements for dogs or cats (you must use a size 200 or above) Also, no matter what airline you're using, the plastic nuts must be replaced with metal nuts for international travel. Conveniently the hardware you need is also available via amazon, most likely under the "frequently bought together" portion of this kennel's product page.
The kennel itself appears well made and arrived in perfect condition. Attaching the top to the bottom only took a couple minutes. The kennel comes with two "Live Animal" stickers already on it and an additional three stickers for you to add if needed.
I won't be traveling for several months, so I haven't attached the door to my crate yet. I put some blankets inside with the hope that my cat will enjoy hanging out in her new "cat fort" and thus be slightly less traumatized when she has to stay locked in it for hours during the flight. So far so good! I'll update this review after using it for travel.
Update: This kennel was great for my cat's flight overseas. She had to be shipped in pet cargo from the USA to London Heathrow, with a layover and a long wait in customs. The kennel itself was up to standard for international pet transport once I replaced the plastic nuts and bolts with metal nuts and bolts. Prior to her journey she had to ride in the car for several hours, and she HATES the car. Usually she yowls and throws up and is absolutely miserable. In this kennel, she was silent for the entire 4 hour trip! She was napping and would wake up periodically if we drove over a bump or something, but seemed very at ease the entire time. I think that this kennel really made her feel more secure than previous carriers.
The true testament to this carrier, though, is the fact that even after her undoubtedly traumatic experience flying overseas she still loves hanging out in it.
My final recommendations would be to definitely consider this kennel if you're shipping your cat anywhere, don't forget to replace the hardware, and don't underestimate the benefit of letting your cat acclimate to the carrier prior to traveling.
