The events recounted here are amazing. And painfully unsettling. Republicans seem capable of shrugging off both facts and reason so long as it brings short-term gain. In the long term (and even in the short term) they're so degrading the value of actual scientific evidence, that the ability of our society to make good decisions is increasingly compromised. In trying to relegate science to "opinion," they risk far more than costs of a typical political ploy. This assault on reason may be a greater danger to the persistence of western society than any terrorist.
