I purchased this radio to add to my hurricane/emergency supplies. Unfortunately, I had to actually use it during Hurricane Sally's visit to the Gulf Coast last week. We were prepared for the possible loss of power with a stand by generator. We lost power at 12:30 am. Due to the hurricane winds, we were not able to start it until after the winds died down the next morning. In the meantime, I had my beautiful new weather radio that worked perfectly, in so many ways, to keep us informed while the storm raged on. Reception was great. I was able to listen to short wave, FM, AM and weather bands the entire night. I loved the 2-light brightness and it became my flashlight. It was my companion throughout the night as well, in the 3 days following the storm when we only had generator power. I was kind of sad when I put it away on the shelf. The batteries AAA and ion were long lasting. It recharged quickly off the generator and crank. It is also quite sturdy and easy to carry around. So, I definitely would and can recommend this compact emergency radio to help you get through an emergency such as Hurricane Sally. I hope that we won't have to use it again, but hurricane season doesn't end until November 30th.
