You need to get these right now.
Okay, so we moved into a brand new apartment building and then one day found ourselves constantly battling fruit flies. It was pretty consistent but seemed to get less and then pick up again. We started with homemade traps like our numerous google searches suggested and took 2 small cups and poured in some apple cider vinegar and a few drops of dish soap. We covered it with saran wrap and poked holes in it. We naturally assumed the fruit flies were coming from the kitchen (even though we had no food out at all, and it was immaculately clean) so we kept the traps on the kitchen counter. We also poured boiling water down all the drains in the apartment. We caught quite a lot of flies using this method however we just seemed to be getting more and more. So after a week, we decided to go ahead and spend the $14 and buy this 6 pack of special containers with basically the same ingredients we had been using. We set up all 6 traps and placed them in the kitchen, the living room, near the entrance, the bathroom near the night light, and the bedroom. We closed the bathroom and bedroom doors and plugged/closed all the drains. We noticed right away that the first few fruit flies landed inside the trap were able to fly right out. Due to our previous knowledge, we just added a few more drops of dish soap to each trap. We left our apartment for about 24 hours. When we came back and there was a decent amount of fruit flies in the traps that weren't in the bathroom or bedroom. Maybe about 20-30. We didn't see any flying around. We then opened the bathroom and again found maybe about 20 in the trap with none flying around. Last, we opened the bedroom....... the bedroom that has no food, no plants, no open windows, no nothing. And found a couple hundred in the one trap we placed in there. Again, none flying around. Upon further inspection, we found a few dead ones scattered on the floor/window sill. We opened up the PTAC heating/cooling unit in the wall and found nothing. So for the life of us, we could not figure out where these annoying guys were coming from... needless to say we will be leaving these traps out for at least another few weeks to make sure no more have time to lay anymore eggs. Bottom line..... the solution itself can easily be made yourself but these containers are GLORIOUS. Not only can you place a bunch all over the place to try and find the sources, but you can also clearly see how many suckers you got. And if you're daring, you can even empty them and re-use them with your own solution. Hopefully they're gone for good but we'll see..... BEST $14 spent ever.
