Solid Construction, Excellent Quality ...
... But is it the right one for you?
I have a lot of No/No Feeders, one is 12 years old. But because I have so many of various styles I've come to be really picky about the features that are most important to me. Those are 1) Large Capacity 2) Ease of Filling / Speed of Filling (both make a huge difference when you're standing outside freezing in winter while trying to fill a lot of feeders!). I withheld one star on this one because it only holds a small amount (2 1/2 pounds) compared to the others, actually costs more than some of the others, and is a bit harder to fill.
I also get kind of picky about the 'hype' and how they advertise these things, particularly for folks who are just getting into bird feeding and don't have a lot of money to spend trying out 10 different styles and brands before they arrive at one that suits them.
The 'blurbs' next to the feeder picture read:
"Holds over 2.5 pounds of Black Oil Sunflower Seeds, the most popular seed for wild birds
Feeds 15-20 birds at once; huge feeding area means fewer refills"
(No, a huge capacity means fewer refills - this one only holds 2 1/2 pounds of seed. A huge feeding area (which is a good thing!) with the expectation to feed 15-20 birds at once but with only 2 1/2 pounds of seed, means you may be filling this once a day.)
Anyone who has observed gorgeous Cardinals can tell you that they are shy, not the type to crowd around a feeder in masses, although they do like a wide feeding area. Nor do they usually go to the feeder if other kinds of birds are perched there. So if you're buying this hoping to see 15-20 Cardinals at this feeder at a time, you're wasting your money.
However if you're just starting out and have a few birds around, this might attract a few Cardinals for you given the wide perch.
If you get a lot of birds already, then my first choice would be No/No Forest Green Hourglass Bird Feeder GHG00318 which costs a few dollars less than this one, holds almost 4 pounds more seed than this one, and has a wider opening at the top making it easier to fill than this one. And I still get Cardinals at the Hourglass feeder even without the wide perch. So the choice is yours.
I hope this information is helpful in making your selection.
