My elderly Mom needed something on her bed to keep her from falling off the edge. Because she has an articulating bedframe, the steel medline rails for that purpose wouldn't work. When I saw this, soft pillow bumper, I took a chance and she loves it! It's high enough to keep her from falling out, and soft enough she can easily climb over when she wants to get out of the bed for any reason, and she uses it to cuddle next to and support her knees or to prop her feet on while sleeping. And because of it's softness, when she raises the head of the bed, the bumper moves with the mattress and frame with no issues. I definitely recommend this for any type of bed and would purchase again.
