I ran a therapy clinic years ago, using (primarily) electromagnetic therapies. I treated a [white] patient who had severe peripheral vascular disease. His pedal pulses were not palpable on one foot and barely palpable on the other. He had previously thrown clots into his toes, which progressed to gangrene, that led to the amputation of several toes. Below his calves to his ankles he had the thickened, brown skin, typical of severe tissue deprivation. He had 3+ pitting edema. The color of his lower legs was dusky, purplish red. The skin was dry. The treatment consisted of only 2 things: Local phototherapy to open circulation and liberal, oral Nattokinase. This patient came to me as a last-chance, a Hail-Mary. He was already on the schedule at OHSU in Oregon to have one leg amputated. His wife saved his urine weekly for the first 3 months of treatment. The urine had a shiny, oil-like sheet of material with particulate in it at first. Then as the weeks progressed, he had less and less until the urine was again clear and samples were no longer taken. I was offered a followup visit, almost three years later. On evaluation, the patient had perfectly healthy appearing lower legs. The skin was supple, normal in color, with a healthy pink undertone. Both pedal pulses were strong. In other words, the treatment (which the wife continued daily and was still continuing) had worked. There was no outward sign of Peripheral Vascular Disease. Both legs still on his body. (Usually, in severe PVD or Diabetes, once one leg is amputated, the second one is amputated within 5 years on average.) I have found this combination useful also for chronic wounds as well. In total, I had the opportunity to save 4 legs from amputation, using this approach or phototherapy alone. This includes one 580lb diabetic patient who saved his second leg from amputation. The wounds did not reopen.
