I waited until I had slept on this topper for a bit before posting a review. First, it was and still is a little over 4 inches thick. I measured with a ruler when I first got it two months ago and again today. It is VERY comfortable! It is on the soft side, but not too soft for me because my firm mattress is beneath it. I had read in another review that if you're a large person, you may still have some pressure points, and though I am definitely a large person, I have no problems with this. The only issue I have is that it takes some finagling to figure out the most comfortable way to sit on it if you, like I, do a lot of things on your bed. I live in a studio apartment, so my bed is not just my bed -- it's also my desk and my dining table and my sofa. The most important part, though, is that my back pain is gone. I had another topper, a 2-inch gel/foam thing, that rid me of my lower back pain for a while, but after five months I started hurting again. I'm thinking this one might do better. It just feels more durable than the other one did. Well worth the price, imo. Someday I'll spend $1,000 on a bed, but until I at a point to do that, this topper is more than adequate. UPDATED: I got this topper 15 months ago. It’s still comfy, hasn’t flattened and have given me a lot of extra time with my crappy old mattress. Don’t plan on buying another topper or mattress for quite a while yet. UPDATED AGAIN: It’s been almost 2 years at this point, & this topper has give my crappy IKEA mattress a lot of extra life. Still super comfy, still no back pain. VERY swell worth it.
