Tonight we did a pre-Thanksgiving trial run. Bought 3 gallons of peanut/soy oil and a 13 lb. turkey. Followed the manual's instructions, 4 minutes per pound (we don't own a meat thermometer), and after 52 minutes cooking time, 10 minutes draining and resting time, and 10 more long minutes of carving time, we dug in. The turkey was tremendous! White meat (my preference) was tender and juicy...delicious! My twin 16-year-old boys each had a turkey leg and they ate like half-starved vikings, so I guess they were pleased. For Thanksgiving we've decided: turkey in the fryer, ham from the oven.
