Works for Linux!
I bought this to burn CDs and watch DVDs on my Acer laptop with Ubuntu OS. I had a little trouble at first, because it was saying the K3b CD burning software didn't have permission to access the CD creator, but to fix that, just open terminal and type sudo chmod 4711 /usr/bin/wodim; sudo chmod 4711 /usr/bin/cdrdao After that it was smooth sailing and I was able to burn a few CDs. When I put a DVD in the drive, it offers to open with Videos, but that brings up an error. You have to download VLC media player from the Ubuntu Software store and open the disc with VLC. Very happy with my purchase, it does exactly what I wanted it to do! Time will tell how well this holds up, especially with 2 younger kids, but for the price it's great!
Update- I tried this to play a DVD on my kid's Dell laptop with Windows 10 OS. The VLC media player didn't work and it took some time to find a free app that didn't have ads or an annoying watermark. I did eventually find one though! It's called "Any Media Player- Video, DVD, VLC, TV Play for free". It works great and it's free without annoying stuff. It looks pretty similar to the Ubuntu version of the VLC player.
