Hoover Power Scrub replaced my Bissell (updated 1/2014 & 10/2014)
After much debate and reading many, many reviews of different carpet cleaners, I finally decided on purchasing this carpet cleaner. I was replacing a Bissell ProHeat 2X that failed after 6 uses.
Pros: out of the box - set up very easy, pop the handle in place and screw in the two screws.
easy to fill tanks - no bladder bag like in the bissell
easy to dump dirty water tank
easy to CLEAN tanks after use - biggie for me, the bissell was horrible to clean and there was always a
dirty nasty residue left
easy to clean filter in dirty water tank
very light weight easy to push/pull (see con below)
very effective cleaning job - I was able to use my Bissell proheat on 1/2 the carpet before it died and used the Hoover over the same area 6 hours later and was shocked at how dirty the water was. My carpet is not that old and I vacuum regularly. I could visible see the difference between where I had used the two different cleaners.
great job - I was shocked at how much better my carpet looked. We have a higher grade plush carpet and where the high traffic areas are, the carpet had flattened down quit a bit. I was really surprised at how it lifted the carpet. I do use a carpet rake (always have) on the carpet after I cleaned it. If you don't own one, think about purchasing one. I use the rake after I vacuum to help lift the carpet fibers.
No on board tools - I hated the on board tools on my Bissell, they kept falling off while I was trying to use the machine. I finally ended up putting a large rubber band over the hose and attaching it to the handle of the Bissell to keep it in place. The hose etc. for the Hoover are kept in a nice storage bag (comes with it) that has a built in hanger for storage.
Removable brushes - a great feature to be able to remove the brushes to clean them.
Cons: short cord - have to move it quite a bit
Small tanks - one of the reasons it is so light weight. I had to dump/refill it three times for a 15 x 12' bedroom. I do however tend to rinse the carpet quite a bit so it may not be as bad for some people. The trade off - lightweight vs more time dumping the tank/filling the clean water tank wasn't a biggie for me as I have problems with my elbows so lightweight wins.
Smaller cleaning area (width) than what I was used to.
All in all I am very happy with this carpet cleaner. I am sure there are better carpet cleaners out there but for around $200.00 this Hoover is fantastic. It seems to meet my expectations of what I expected. Seems to be well built. Hopefully will last longer than my Bissell. Will update review again after using this carpet cleaner for a while.
Update: 1/1/14 Happy to say no problems so far. Have used it many times thanks to a new puppy and am still very happy!
18 Months later: Final update :) Here we are 18 months after purchase. I am pleased to say No Problems even after letting both my children and my mother-in-law borrow it to clean their homes! Works wonderfully just like the first time I used it. I am extremely pleased with this purchase and would recommend it highly.
