We have had a teething little girl since she was barely 10 weeks old. It's been a struggle. Our doctor suggested that his wife was a firm believer in homeopathic medicine, but he thought it was a bunch of bologna until she ordered their child an amber necklace. "Is that for chewing on?" I asked. "Not exactly. They wear it and the amber has oils which help keep away teething pain, inflammation (like ear infections) and congestion." he replied. "Woah!" I said, "I'm going to have to try that." You see, we were treating a 3 month old baby for her first ear infection. Her daddy is partially deaf, I'm partially deaf, and we worried that she'd inherit our ear problems. One ear infection was enough for me. So, we gave her tylenol persistently until we bought another teething product, but still, we couldn't kick the ear infection without antibiotics. If you've never given antibiotics to a 3 month old baby, you're lucky. It gives them terrible diarrhea and they HATE the taste of the antibiotics and know it's the source of the problem. Rather than do that again, I ordered one of these. We got it about a week ago. I was getting up with my child 2-4 times per night, for seemingly endless feedings, crying fits, and other shenanigans. At first, I began letting her wear the necklace during the day. She doesn't even know she has it on, even though it's loose fitting. It doesn't seem to catch her attention at all. I read the instructions about putting this on your child's ankle instead of their neck when they are asleep. Thinking this has to be a bunch of hooey, I did it anyway. She's slept 9 hours, through the night, for 2 nights in a row now. Two nights of peace for a mommy who has not slept in months! Is it the amber necklace? I don't know. It could be! I'm convinced it may be, so I'll be repeating this practice each evening. Now, the wonderful Mommy teething necklace that comes with this is so cute and functional. She loves to grab it and chew on it when we're rocking together or just sitting in a chair. It's durable, pretty flexible (for being so strong), and easy to clean. I'm very pleased with it. Would I purchase this again? Yes, I would. Will I be sending one to every expectant mother I know? Absolutely! Thanks again, Powell's Owls!
