This is a review of the Sony MDRXB50AP Extra Bass Earbud Headset. Summary – I have tried many different earbuds in search of the perfect set. Some of the earbuds I have used include Bose, Shure, ATH, etc.. In short, I have learned a valuable lesson. What makes for a great earbud is fit (comfortable), amount of non-distorted bass as well as quality. To me, each earbud I have tried had an issue of some sort. Bose is nice and clear, yet lacked bass in my opinion which I like. The Shure 215K I purchased was very clear, had a nice bass but took too long to place in the ear and get a good fit. (The Shure are an over the ear type vs. an in ear with cord hanging down.) The ATH CRK10 felt a little heavy in the ears, however, provided a well-balanced sound. These headphones in my opinion are my new favorite set and are now my day to day used set. They are lightweight, feel comfortable and sound very nice to me. I can get a nice set of highs, mids and these do have a slightly increased bass compared to the others and my OEM Samsung type. What makes these stand apart from others is the excellent bass without loss of mids-highs and how the bass is not overly done or distorted. It is solid yet full. In terms of features, these have a lot of nice features as well and I will give you a quick run down below. Tip – If there is one thing I learned, never believe high dollar means best sound. Sound is very subjective to the listener. This was a very low cost set of earbuds that sound great and leave me with sound better asnd more in tune for what I like-enjoy than sets costing 3-6 times this price. As with all my reviews, if these develop issues, I will update this review. Overall very happy and would certainly recommend. Features -Flat cord which is ideal to avoid tangles. -Cable is not thick and feels durable at the same time. -The design looks great, they are light weight and fit very well. (They also come with four different size eartips. X-small, small, medium and large.) -Has built in microphone which works well for handsfree calling on my cell phone. -Comes with a nice cloth carry case with draw string and Sony logo on the side. -Large driver size. 12mm. (Earbud drivers are typically 8 to 15mm and headphones will range up to around 50mm.) These use a dynamic driver which are good for bass and using low power. -Has a 110db/mw ratio. -Frequency response is 4-24,000hz. (Most earbuds are only 20 hz as a low and around 20-22k as a high side. -Plug is a 90 degree angle and is gold plated for maximum sound quality. -Is 16ohms and has a 100mW power handling capacity. (Meaning your normal IPOD devices, phones, etc. will be fine and there is no need to have an amp with these.)
