Have an abused 2003 impala 3.8 V6 (off-lease from the Texas heat with a hitch receiver and currently over 130k miles) that started intermittently hard shifting and/or severely slipping. Drove it to a trans shop and it turned out to be a sticking/worn modulating valve in the transmission. Later at home I removed 48 ounces of fluid and replaced with two bottles of this Lucas treatment and the problem has yet to return and it has been a 2 months and 4,000 miles. After two months I changed the trans fluid and filter (adding another bottle of this treatment with the new spec Dexron-VI trans fluid) and all is still well other than some slight hard shifting in summer city traffic. March 2012 update: Over 3 years and at 170,000 miles and still no problems. Aug 2012 update: Changed the trans fluid and filter again with Dexron-VI and one bottle of this treatment which gave a slight reduction in the occasional hard shifting that happens in stop and go driving in hot weather. Jan 2015 update: I have since given the car to a relative who has given the car to another relative and at 200,000 miles the transmission is still going.
