1st Time Dog owner - Successfully trainned Lab with ease
I am a first time dog owner of a puppy black Labrador and have trained her very successfully and easily following Don's method!
I don't usually comment on products, but when I read that one bad review about this video, I had to jump in and write this review. I am very pleased with the results of Don's methods.
In just a few month (3-4 month) I had my puppy able to:
- Walk on a leash without pulling
- Walk freely off leash and not run away
- Comes when ask too, even under distraction of other dogs and people. AND while PLAYING with other dogs!!!! (this took a little more practice :O), but with time and patience we made it!!!)
- Down, Sit and Stay command, vocal and visual (I Love the visual.... especially when I had a cold and couldn't talk loud... it works!)
- Not to jump on people
- Not to beg and steal food, even from the kids!
- Fetch and drops the ball ( no need to struggle to get it back)
I have never trained a dog before and looked into taking classes at Petco, but then decide to save some money and try to do it myself, so in the future, I'll know what I'm doing with my next dogs. I have started to train my fathers-in-law's dog too ;O)
The on thing I really Like about Don's training philosophy: We don't use treats to train!!!!! Other video I watched feed the dog treats by the handful to get them to do something. The dog them does tricks expecting a treat! With Don's method, the dog does it for you, not for food. Saves money on treats ;O)
Now, another reviewer really made it sound bad! So here's my take:
- Yes, Don is trying to sell his own collar design and products. But that's what they all do, even in Leerbutg's video. I'd probably do the same if it was my video.... I did not use his product, though, I just used a prong collar once or twice but never really needed it!
- NO, you do not uppercut the dog nor knee the dog at any time! This is SO misleading! The real fact is much more gentle and you do NEVER hurt the dog! That reviewer to a good training method and used words to make it sound bad! So don't pay attention to that review.
After all this I probably should mention that I am NOT working for Don, nor have been paid for this review ;O) I am just really satisfied with the methods, philosophy and results of this training program. I keep on getting compliment on how well behaved my dog is!
I was shopping at Petco with my puppy when comes 2 huge dogs around the isle and starting to bark at my dog. The owners had a hard time controlling them! My puppy wanted to play and bark too, but I whispered in her ear "SIT & STAY" and so she did! The other owners asked me how I got such good result: I mentioned this video ;O)
Happy Training!
