Norelco model 6900 shaver delivers a good shave with a high degree of comfort. However it doesn't shave *better* (closer) than their 7 year old model 6945xl that sold for about 1/3rd the price. What I'm looking for in a shaver is a close shave. This does that but the 6945xl also did that and I could not tell the difference between them when I shaved one side of my face with the 6900 and the other with the 6945. I want to make clear that in almost every other way the newer 6900 is better than the 6945xl. The shave is far more comfortable. That's not a big deal to me as I wasn't bothered by the 6945xl - but if you want comfort the 6900 is impressive. It charges fast - only an hour for a full charge. It has a beard trimmer attachment - and it works very well. (Norelco has an alternate model with a ear/nose hair trimmer) Easy to clean and it gets *very* clean after you rinse it out. The shaver supports "wet" shaving but I don't do that so that's not a benefit to me. There's a "skin guard" mode. Slower rotation if you want less irritation. It shaves so smoothly now that that mode seems irrelevant. But it's there if you need it! It comes with what should be a handy travel case but there's no space in the case for the charger or the trimmer - not a good design. The manual is a bit confusing as it refers to models s6880, s6850, s6820 and s6810 but not the model 6900. Turns out those 4 numbers are variants of the 6900. Norelco, you've got weird numbers! It's a good shaver. If you want to save money you can probably find a cheaper Norelco that will shave just as well but give you fewer features. (Norelco's 4500 seems to be the current model that is most similar to the 6945xl) -------- update --------- Now that I've used it almost two weeks my opinion on it has improved a bit. It doesn't shave closer than the 6945xl... but it does shave *faster*. -------- another update ------- Now that I've used it for over a month my opinion on it has improved. I upgrade the rating from 4 to 5 stars. Pricey but worth it!
