I have tried other coccyx cushions and they get too soft and do not provide support for the spine because they squished down too much but this cushion does not do that. It is firmer so it takes a little while to conform. In cooler temperatures it gets quite firm but that is a good thing because this cushion will not squish down too much to fail its purpose and let your spine feel that painful pressure. Once you sit on it for a while your tushy warms it up and it does soften a bit but it does not give out like softer cushions do. I drive a truck and have some pretty long drives and have been failed by other coccyx cushions that were softer cushions because they flatten and spine is actually back down on the seat! where cushion compressed to. NOT good! So I am staying with this cushion and have purchased more than one and I want more as extras
